A villager residing in a rural area of Kror Kor district in Cambodia’s Pursat province, Chai Hun is 21 years of age and married. To make a living, she works as a grocery seller and as a paid worker. Chai Hun’s husband also works as a rice farmer and as a paid worker in order to supplement the family’s income. Chai Hun is a first-time borrower with VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. She is applying for a KHR 2,000,000 loan to support her husband’s rice-growing business. Chai Hun will spend the loan to buy fertilizer and rice seed. With the help of this loan, Chai Hun hopes that her husband can smoothly run his rice-growing business, which enables him to generate more income for the family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
