Khursan
Khursan is 54 years old, married, and has 4 children. This loan will be Khursan's second with Arvand, where she has been a client since 2011. She proved herself to be very reliable with her previous loan, never once violating the terms of credit. Khursan fattens and sells cattle. She also processes milk, using part for her own consumption and selling part to her neighbours. Her husband is a pensioner and helps her on the farm, mainly by looking after the cattle and taking them to market to be sold. Two of her sons have gone to the Russian Federation to earn money. They also help their parents by sending money home. Khursan plans to use this loan to buy cattle to increase her herd. She is thankful to Arvand for the financial support.

About MDO Arvand

MDO Arvand is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Tajikistan, offering small loans to entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. This makes an enormous difference in a country, which is not only the poorest in Central Asia, but also home to a population where two-thirds live below the poverty line. Today, Tajikistan's economy literally depends on remittances being sent from family members working abroad in Russia because there are so few local job opportunities.

But Arvand loans have been able to make a difference and change lives. Read about some of the incredible success stories they have seen here in this Kiva blog post: Bringing hope to Tajikistan with Arvand -- one success story at a time.
