Jane is aged 33 years, and a farmer in Nkubu county in Kenya. She lives with her husband and one child, who is schooling. Jane has been in farming for the past twenty years, producing coffee, cabbages, fruits and bananas, which she sells at the local market in her area. She has a motor bike for a transportation business, as an additional source of income.
She is requesting a 50,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo, to purchase poultry birds. By selling the products of the birds she will earn extra income that will help her educate her child and uplift her living standard. Jane aspires to have bought two additional acres of land on which to grow horticultural crops, in the next five years.
Poor climatic conditions and insecurity are her major challenges in farming. Jane thanks Juhudi Kilimo for helping her change the way she does her agricultural business
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
