Savy is a 35-year-old rice farmer who lives in a rural area of the Thmor Koul district of Battambang province. He is a widowed father of one daughter who is still in school. Savy grows rice on a nine-hectare area of farmland. He has been a farmer for ten years.
Savy is a first-time borrower with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. With this loan, he is going to use a portion to buy fertilizer and rice seeds for his farmland and use a portion of it to spend on labor fees. He hopes this his rice will be healthful and timely, so as to sell it for a good price and to improve his standard of living and keep his daughter in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
