The Las Joyitas group is in its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer as part of the Centro Focal de Villa Adela. The group is comprised of 9 members, it is directed by a board, and Miriam is the Secretary. The businesses of the members are varied and include food sales, sewing, selling candy, and selling electronics.

The loan benefits these micro-entrepreneurs, one of whom is Miriam. This is the first time that Miriam has worked with Pro Mujer, joining by the invitation of a friend that is already a member. Now she has a business sewing and selling skirts. She learned to do this work after many years of learning from her mother. After she began her business, she decided to open a store.

The loan that she is now applying for will be used to buy equipment (an industrial sewing machine) that she will rent out to other vendors and she will keep it in the space she has in her store. This type of work enables her to generate income to support her livelihood.

When asked what she liked about Pro Mujer, she responded that she likes the training in the areas of health and finances and also the medical advice.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
