Mateo, 70, is a farmer. He is married and lives in Sololá. He has seven children. Four of his six sons are married, and his daughter is married too. They work independently.Two of his sons still live with him and help him in the fields. He works in agriculture, growing potatoes, onions, carrots, and green beans on some parcels of land that he has a few kilometers from his home. He learned this trade from his father, because he did not have the chance to study in school.
Before he had his own crop, he worked with his sister, where he perfected and gained more experience in his work. Now he has had his own crop for 25 years, and he has had acceptable earnings. This is why is applying for a loan of Q 4,000.00 so that he can buy potato seeds and fertilizer. He will plant it and harvest it and improve his earnings and his family's quality of life. With his earnings, he dreams of buying another parcel and being able to expand his crop and earn more money in the future.
Mateo es un hombre agricultor de 70 años de edad, el esta casado y vive en Sololá. El tiene 7 hijos de ellos seis varones de ellos cuatro están casados y una mujer que también esta casada y trabajan independientemente, y dos varones que aun viven con el y lo apoyan en el campo.
El se dedica a la agricultura cultivando papa, cebolla, zanahoria y ejote, en unas parcelas que tiene a pocos kilómetros de su vivienda, esto lo aprendió de su padre ya que no tuvo la oportunidad de estudiar en alguna escuela.
Antes de realizar su propio cultivo el trabajo junto a su hermana donde perfecciono y obtuvo mas experiencia en este trabajo .
El ahora cuenta con 25 años de realizar su propio cultivo viendo que obtiene ganancias aceptables, de este modo el solicita un préstamo de Q 4,000.00 para que pueda comprar semillas de papa y su fertilizante para luego cultivarlo y cosecharlo mejorando sus ingresos y condiciones de vida de su familia.
Con sus ganancias el sueña la compra de una parcela mas y poder expandir su cultivo obteniendo mejores ganancias en un futuro.

Kiva funding will be used to support three innovative credit initiatives: youth business loans, green loans, and smaller loans to help ADICLA move down-market and serve poorer clients.
