The committee was formed in July 2006. Gladys Teresa M. Lopez initiated the first meeting and convinced 14 other ladies to work together to form the group in order to have access to capital. Excited about the idea, the ladies decided to form a committee in order to bring prosperity to their families.

Among the businesses the ladies run are: grocery stores, candy stores, tailoring shops, sales of detergents, soaps, food drinks, clothes and lingerie among others. The money provided by this Kiva loan will be used to purchase clothing, lingerie, food ingredients such as flour, eggs and butter and drinks such as beers, Coke, wines and juices.

The Committee of Entrepreneuring women is a program carried out by Fundación Paraguaya which targets groups of enterprising women who create a village bank through which they receive assistance in terms of loans. The main goal is to give them the opportunity to carry out economic activities which enable them to live in dignity and contribute to a better quality of life in their homes. Lending to poor women creates a cascading effect that brings social and economic benefits to a whole family, and thus to the entire community. What is more, the sense of belonging to a group gives these women the energy and motivation to achieve their dreams.

About Fundación Paraguaya

Fundación Paraguaya is a financially self-sustaining social enterprise that promotes entrepreneurship in urban and rural areas through microfinance, education programs, and more. Its focus on agriculture has helped many farmers boost their crop yields. And a number of other borrowers have taken out loans to start and grow social businesses that have helped deliver eyeglasses, medicines and other helpful services in their local communities.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
