The association called “Pacajes” has been part of the family of “Pro-Mujer” for three years and they have successfully repaid seven loans. The association is part of the Juan Pablo II Center located in the Ferropetol Zone in El Alto City. They are 16 female members, which have proven to be very organized on their activities and responsible with their payments.

They are different businesses within the association for example; there is a meat market; one that makes and sells tents for cars; but the main activity is handcrafting metals. They make their art in shops located on their own homes, unfortunately they sell only on demand because they don’t have a place to show them to the public. This year they have their hopes set on showing their creations on the “Annual Craft and Micro-Entrepreneur Fair in La Paz” (FIPAZ), where they will be able to meet local and international customers.

They request a loan to be able to have capital to purchase new raw material and complete higher quality crafts. This would increase their income and they could improve the quality of life for their families.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
