Sergio has worked for a coffee cooperative for five years although he already had experience with this crop since his family has worked growing it for many years. Sergio and his wife, Josefina, work afternoons in their coffee farm and turn over their entire yearly harvest to the “Unión Regional de Huatusco” [coffee cooperative] because they are members of this association. Sergio needs a loan to pay for laborers to pick coffee in the next harvest season because there is too much work to do and he can’t do it all himself with just his wife’s help. He will repay the loan at the end of harvest. Sergio would like to increase production and to do so he must plant new coffee plants in a few months that will start to bear fruit in three years. At the end of harvest, Sergio would like to do some home improvements; it needs to be painted and needs some details in the bathrooms.
More information about this loan
These loans are designed to help farmers expand their existing crop yields and increase their incomes. The loans are designed to fit the agricultural cycle, allowing farmers to make purchases during the planting season and repay following the harvest. Coffee production loans help farmers maintain and grow their fields by cleaning, pruning, fertilizing, and conserving the grounds, delivering water, and replanting trees needed to shade the coffee plants.
