Los Humildes Group
In this Group: Santos, Donaldo
Donaldo, 69, is a member of the “Los Humildes” (The Humble Ones) communal bank. He’s married and has two children. His wife is a housewife. He’s an honest, responsible person. He started his business 30 years ago. He sells ice-cream or frozen treats from 8am until 3pm. His advantage is that the product he sells is of very high quality and he sells it door to door. The loan Donaldo is requesting is to buy caramel, sweetener and flavoring agents among other products exclusively used to make ice-cream. With support from the loan, he will be able to offer more products to his customers. The only problem Donaldo faces is that sales drop in winter because customers don’t buy much during that season due to the cold weather. His goal is to have a well-established business and to have his own locale so as not to have to go out selling door to door anymore. This is Donaldo’s 4th FAMA loan request and to date he’s made his payments punctually.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
