Joseph is a 33-year-old farmer in Nkubu county in Kenya, where he lives with his three children who are all schooling. He has been practicing mixed farming for over 10 years, producing milk, maize, tea, and pork, which he sells at the market in his local area.
Joseph is requesting a 30,000 Kenya shilling (KES) loan from Juhudi kilimo to purchase pigs. He will sell the pork and earn extra income that will assist him in improving his livelihood and paying for his childrens' educations. He aspires to be the leading supplier of pork in his region. High costs of feeds is his major challenge in farming.
Joseph is grateful with the way Juhudi kilimo is processing loans.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
