As one of the breadwinners in the family, Phorn is originally from Kandal Stoeung district of Kandal province. He is 36 years old and has two children.
To secure his daily food, he works at a construction site and grows rice while his wife works at the factory nearby their house. He has been involved in this business for 10 years. This is the fifth-cycle loan for Phorn with VisionFund (Kiva's partner). After the successful loans which he repaid with success, he feels confident that he can improve his family's living condition and support his children's education.
Now, he is applying for a new loan to purchase an additional plot of farmland to expand his rice paddy growing business. He hopes this purchase will help him to grow more rice on a bigger scale and return him double profits. With that, he can support his children's education up to a higher level.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
