Ly is a villager living in a rural area of Srey Snom district located in Cambodia's Siem Reap province. She is 51 years old and married with four children, two (sons) of whom are school-aged children and still dependent on her. To offer a decent life for her family, she has been working tirelessly as a rice farmer for 10 years on a three-hectare plot of farmland. She earns around 10,000 KHR per day and saves approximately 5,000 KHR after deducting her daily cost of living. Ly is applying for a loan of 4,000,000 KHR with VisionFund (Kiva's partner) for the first time. With this loan, she will buy a motorbike and a tractor. With the help of this loan, Ly hopes that she can earn a larger income from her current business. She is also willing to use the anticipated income to move her family ahead and help her children further their education.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
