Savet is 34 years old and married. She is the mother of two children, both of whom are still too young for school. To make a living, she and her husband have been farming rice on three hectares of farmland for six years. They supplement their family’s income by working for others for a fee. They are able to earn about 62,000 KHR per day and manage to save about 20,000 KHR each day after offsetting expenses.
Savet has been with VisionFund for three cycles and successfully paid back the past loans. Savet has used her previous loans to better support her family with enough food. She is now requesting a new loan of 2,000,000 KHR to renovate her old tractor. She hopes to grow her rice fruitfully so as to better her standard of living and send her children to school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
