Ruth
Ruth is part of the communal bank "Frutos del Progreso," that is part of the community of La Florida, located in the city of Santiago. She has sold clothing for ten years. She began working on market days, moving her merchandise on a tricycle on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, offering all kinds of clothing for men and women. Her working schedule is made up according to her availability. She needs merchandise for her business and she purchases it from different locales where they offer different styles, sizes and also underwear at low costs, or at least reasonable prices.

One of the goals that Ruth has is to be able to purchase a truck that she can use to sell her clothing more comfortably because she can no longer continue as she has due to her hip that is very delicate and she will also be able to purchase clothing more easily and carry it in her truck.

La Florida is a community located in the Southeast of Santiago, capital of Chile. The population is very diverse and represents all sectors of society (upper class, upper middle, middle and lower middles classes). The area has an active commercial life which is evident in the existence of a variety of business centers. It is an area that has seen an explosive population growth in recent years.

Ruth forma parte del Banco Comunal “Frutos del Progreso” perteneciente a la comuna de la Florida, ubicada en la ciudad de Santiago.
Ella se dedica a la venta de ropa, desde hace 10 años. Se desempeña trabajando en las ferias movilizando sus mercadería en su triciclo, los días jueves, sábados y domingos, ofreciendo todo tipo de ropa para damas y caballeros, su horario de trabajo lo distribuye de acuerdo a su disponibilidad.
La mercadería que va necesitando para su negocio la compra en locales donde encuentra ropa de diferentes modelos, tallas y también ropa interior a bajo costo, por lo tanto conveniente económicamente.
Con el crédito comprará ropa y un triciclo.
Una de las metas de Ruth es poder comprar un furgón para poder desplazarse mas cómodamente con su mercadería, ya que no puede realizar fuerzas o movimientos bruscos por su cadera que se encuentra delicada, así también comprar con más facilidad y llevarse la mercadería en su furgón.
Ruth vive junto a su hijo quien trabaja. Sus sueños a nivel laboral es adaptar un espacio en su casa para poner su negocio y no trabajar más en ferias, ya que es sacrificado.
Ella está muy contenta y agradecida de la oportunidad que le ha brindado Fondo Esperanza, ya que le ha permitido invertir en su negocio.
Además se siente muy cómoda con la compañía de las demás emprendedoras del grupo del Banco Comunal, ya que comparten diferentes actividades e intereses, lo cual le ha servido como un momento de distracción. Respecto a las capacitaciones impartidas en las reuniones, ha aprendido administrar su negocio de mejor manera.
La Florida es una comuna ubicada al suroriente de Santiago, capital de Chile, región Metropolitana. Su población actual es muy diversa, representando a todos los sectores socioeconómicos (alto, medio alto, medio y medio bajo). La zona cuenta con una activa vida comercial, la que se manifiesta en la existencia de varios nuevos centros comerciales. Es un sector que ha tenido un explosivo crecimiento demográfico en los últimos años.

About Fondo Esperanza

Fondo Esperanza (FE) is a private non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship by providing micro-credit and training to people living in poverty in well over 100 cities throughout Chile. By providing these services, FE aims to improve the living conditions of the entrepreneurs and their families. In 2010, FE provided loans to more than 41,000 entrepreneurs. It utilizes a communal banking model in which groups of 18 to 25 clients meet on regularly and guarantee each other’s loans. The members use their portion of the loan to create or expand their own businesses. In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.
