Mao, a 23-year-old mother of a little daughter, is a rural villager from Moung Russey district of Battambang Province. She supports her family through rice farming on 3 hectares of farmland for the dry season rice crop and 8 hectares for the rainy season rice crop. To better support the entire household, her husband catches fish to sell and also helps Mao on the rice farm. She has been involved in this business for three years. Mao has just joined Kiva's partner, VisionFund this cycle. She is applying for her first loan in amount of 2,000,000 KHR. She is going to spend this loan on 900 kg of rice seed and seven sacks of fertilizer. She hopes that she can grow her cash crop in a timely fashion and receive more yield to improve her living conditions.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
