A loan of $500 helped to buy increased stocks of assorted fishes, eggplant, peppers, and onions.

Habiba's story

Habiba S., 62, widowed mother of 9 children, lost her husband 3 years ago through protracted illness. She has since been the sole breadwinner of the family. By dint of hard work and perseverance, she has two of her children at university, and the rest are in senior and junior high school. She sells smoked fish, eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes in one of the neighborhood markets. Many homes enjoy her fish because it has got good taste and the price is moderate.

Habiba wants to use this loan to buy assorted fish, eggplant, peppers, and onions to make increased sales and income to support her children’s education and businesses. She belongs to the community group called Twen Awurade Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access the loan and peer pressure to repay the loan.
