Rose is aged 60, and a farmer in Nkubu county in Kenya. She lives with her husband and two children, one of whom is still in school. Rose has been in farming for more than 30 years, producing maize, beans, tea and milk, which she sells at the local market in her area.
She is requesting a 70,000 KES loan to purchase materials for constructing a greenhouse. This will help her get more produce, and hence more income, to be able to educate her child who is still in school and to improve the family's living standards.
She aspires to double her current production in the next five years.
Inadequate rainfall and the high cost of pesticides are her major challenges in farming.
Rose thanks Juhudi Kilimo for its solidarity with farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
