Vergie, 51 years old, is from Tudela, Misamis Occidental. She is married and has three children. For the past 15 years, Vergie has cultivated rice to sell, earning 2,000 PHP monthly. Vergie is requesting a loan of 3,000 PHP, which she will use to pay for the labor costs in rice harvesting. Vergie joined GDMPC in 2012. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the loan to save as a reserve for future emergencies.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
