María is a single, 41-year-old mother of 2 children. She currently lives with her youngest son, whom she supports financially. María started her business 15 years ago, thanks to her brother’s help. She has a kiosk in the local market where she works every morning, attending to her clientele who come to her looking for fresh meat. In addition, in the afternoons she runs another business from her house: a library bazar that she inaugurated one year ago. There she sells all sorts of school supplies and gifts. The loan she has requested from EDAPROSPO will be of much use to her because she wants to buy toys for the Christmas season. Her biggest wish in her life is to expand her business and continue investing in merchandise so she can serve more clients.
María is thankful for the support she has received from the KIVA investors because they make her dream a reality.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
