Marcelina is the coordinator of the group La Buena Nueva (Good New) 1 & 2 , located in the city of Samana, in one of the rural areas surrounded by water of the Atlantic ocean. Many of the members are selling goods like clothing, shoes or cosmetics. Others sell seafood, run fried food stalls and other businesses.
Marcelina is a married woman, mother of eight children, five of whom live together with her and their father. She said that her most difficult challenge has been to built her house, which she started and still needs to finish. She is saving her business profits to produce capital and start investing it to grow her business.
She sells clothing, shoes and cosmetics, and this loan, her tenth, will be used to buy these products to expand her inventory. She is hoping to make her dreams come true, have a prosperous life and a good business. She thanks all of you for your support!
This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
