Chavasinya, age 49, is a farmer in Kitale county in Kenya, where he lives with his wife and six children. He has been engaged in farming for the past six years, producing milk and eggs which he sells in his locality. For additional income, he is employed and is paid a small salary.
He is requesting a loan in the amount of 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, which he will use to purchase poultry birds. With the money he will receive from selling the eggs from these birds, he intends to improve his family's standard of living, pay for his children's education, and expand his dairy project so that he can start selling cows over the next five years.
An unreliable market, high costs of feed, pests, and diseases are his major challenges in farming.
Chavasinya is grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for allowing him to receive this loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
