María Elena
María, 46, is married and has three children. She works doing her domestic chores at home and raising pigs and fowl. She was able by means of this activity to provide her children with a high-school education. Now, her children are working and contribute towards household expenses. The loan she’s asking Fundación Campo for is to buy concrete blocks, metal sheeting and rebar to build two bedrooms for her children because they are grown and need their own space and comfort. In this way, her house will be worth more because it will be larger.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
