Eunice is a farmer, aged 37 years, in Kitale county in Kenya. She lives with her husband and four children, who are all schooling. Eunice has been in farming for the past six years. She produces maize and milk, which she sells at the local market in her area.
She is requesting 41,600 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, to buy and insure a dairy cow. The cow will help her get more milk and, hence, more income. She will use the increase in income to improve her family's living standard and to pay for her children's school fees. She hopes to be the leading supplier of milk in her locality in the next five years.
Pests and diseases are her major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
