Stephen is thirty five years old and is a farmer in Kitale county in Kenya where he lives with his wife and four children who are all in school. He has been in farming for the past six years producing eggs, maize and milk, which he sells to the people in his local area.
He is requesting 52,000 KES from Juhudi kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow from which he will get more milk for sale and more income that will help him improve his family's livelihood and educate his children. He plans to have four more dairy cows and be the main supplier of milk in his area in the next five years.
Pests and diseases are his major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
