Roxana, 32, lives in the San Isidro zone in her parents’ house. She’s a single mother; she has a daughter and she’s solely responsible for all her expenses. She also takes care of some of her parents’ expenses. She started working five years ago selling cosmetics via catalogue and thanks to her efforts was able to meet Avon’s expectations and they made her a group leader. She also sells her products on Thursdays and Sundays in the city of El Alto’s 16 de Julio street market starting very early in the morning.

Because she’s responsible for family expenses, she needs capital to buy merchandise and to be able to buy cosmetics in volume because the firm rewards the saleswomen with gifts that they can earn 100% on and this leads to increased income for them and since the end of the year is approaching when people buy more of this type of merchandise for their personal use or to give as gifts, she needs to stock up on merchandise to earn higher income and thus improve her and her family’s quality of life.
