Originally from Moung Russey district of Battambang province, Chhoum is 52 years old and a father of one son. His main sources of income are from two hectares of rice farming and from selling grocery items. He has engaged in these businesses for 10 years. Three cycles ago was his first loan with VisionFund (Kiva's partner). He has used his loan wisely in order to relieve his family burden and improve its livelihood. Now, he is seeking for 1,500,000 KHR in order to buy fertilizer for his rice. He hopes to mount up his crop production and sell with high prices so as he can maintain his standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
