Mahmoud is a 49-year-old married man from Lebanon. He is living with his wife and three children. In 2005, in order to supplement the family’s income, he decided to start his own business as a farmer. His job consists of cultivating vegetables. He has his own land where he cultivates different kinds of vegetables to satisfy the wide range of clients asking for his products. Mahmoud also benefits from his retirement compensation after being involved in the Lebanese army many years ago. Today, he is asking to borrow a loan from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l to purchase a pick-up and facilitate the way he transports his harvests. It’s a time issue as well; the pick-up will help Mahmoud transport his products in less time. In the future, he plans to take more Kiva loans and expand his lands by cultivating a wider variety of fruits and vegetables.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
