Gathoni is a sixty-four-year-old farmer in Kitale county in Kenya where she lives with her husband. All her children have finished schooling. She has been in farming for the past twenty years producing milk, maize, and horticultural crops which she sells to the people around her local area.
She is requesting for 62,400 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow which will help her get more income which in turn will help her change her standards of living. She hopes to adopt modern dairy farming techniques in the next five years.
High costs of production and animal feeds are her major challenges in farming.
Gathoni is very greatful to Juhudi Kilimo for giving her the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
