Residing in a rural village located in Pursat province's Kror Kor district, Sokhorn is a widow and has four children. Her main income is from 1.5 hectares of rice growing and a business raising pigs, from which she is able to earn up to 17,900 KHR per day; it is the business that she has been with for 32 years.
Sokhorn is new to VisionFund (Kiva's partner). In this first-cycle loan, she is applying for 3,000,000 KHR in order to buy two cows to support her farm. She expects to make more income from both her businesses, so she can uplift her standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
