Leah is a 37-year-old farmer in Kitale county where she lives with her husband and three children, all of whom are attending school. She has been farming for the past 15 years producing poultry products, maize and horticultural crops which she sells to the people around her locality. She also sells second-hand clothes as an additional source of income.
Leah is requesting a 60,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds. From this she will sell products and increase her income, helping to raise her living standards and pay for her children's school fees.
High costs of feed, diseases and an unreliable market for her produce are her major challenges in farming.
She is grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for offering her the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
