Jose Pedro
José is a 33-year-old man, single, and lives in the city of Ica with his parents and siblings. He is a very friendly, hard-working, enthusiastic person who has a great desire to improve. Unfortunately, José was not able to to study for a professional career from a very young age he had to work to help his parents with the household expenses. In his free time he likes to continue working and on some occasions cook a delicious ceviche to share with his family.

On his own, with much determination and dedication, José has worked for three years in a small wine shop in his town, where he makes piscos (a traditional liquor) and wines. He works every day from the early hours of the morning when he begins his work. He is able to work about eight hours a day, and believes that it is going well due to his determination and responsibility.

José is very grateful for the Kiva lenders because thanks to the help they have offered he will be able to improve his house. He wants to be able to buy construction materials in order to reinforce the roof of his house, since it is close to the summer season and the rains are abundant. This way José wants his home to be in better conditions, adequate and safe, to offer a better well-being for himself and his family. Thus, José will continue working and pushing himself to get ahead and in little time hopefully achieve his great dream of having his own home.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
