Malik B. is a 38 years old farmer who owns his small business of selling dairy to local neighbors. He lives with his wife and four children in the southern region Bilasuvar, in Internally Displaced People Settlement. He started his business in 1990 and since that time it has been his only source of income. He recommends himself as a good borrower, because he already borrowed a loan from Aqroinvest and successfully paid it back. Now he applied for $800 USD to purchase one more cow and start selling milk to the local milk factory.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
