Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $600 helped to pay for salt to resell.

Abib's story

Abib, a 26-year-old married man living in Kasese, Uganda, has been selling salt for five years, and with the profits he has been able to pay school fees and provide other major basics for his family.

Abib, who has a demarcated well in the lake from which he extracts the salt, also buys from other miners. His major hardship is lack of proper protective equipment to use during extraction, thus exposing him to health hazards.

Abib is requesting this loan to buy salt to sell. His dreams are to acquire modern mining equipment and to process the salt to add value.
