Sert, 59, is married and lives with her husband and six children in a village of the Thmor Koul district of Battambang province. She and her husband are rice farmers who grow rice on 3 hectares of farmland. They have been in the rice farming business for thirty years. The main challenge for her family’s business is lack of working capital to buy fertilizer to better grow her crops.
Sert is a first-cycle client with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. Now she is requesting a loan of US $700 to buy fertilizer and seeds for her farmland and use a portion of it to spend on gasoline for water pumping. With this loan, Sert hopes to increase her crop yields and earn more income to improve her family’s living conditions.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
