Ont, 52, lives in a rural area of the Thmor Koul district of Battambang province. He is married with four children, one of whom is dependent and still in school. The family’s main source of income is from rice farming on their eight-hectare farmland. His wife also supplements the income by selling grocery items. They have been in this business for twenty-five years.
This is the first microloan for Ont with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. He is now requesting a loan of US $700. With this loan, he is going to buy fertilizers for his farmland and use a portion of it to spend on labor to plow the field. He hopes to make more rice so as to sell it for a good price, and to make a better living and keep his child in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
