Ram is a 58-year-old widow residing in a rural village in the Kandal Stoeng district located in Kandal province, Cambodia. She has three children, all of whom are employed. To support her family, Ram has been working as a rice farmer for twenty years. This will be her third loan request via VisionFund, Kiva's partner. Ram's previous loans, which she has already repaid, have helped her to better meet her family's needs and to improve their living conditions. She is now requesting an 800 USD loan in order to purchase a motorbike to facilitate her children's commuting between home and their workplace. The hope of this industrious single mother, Ram, is to be able to support her children's commuting.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
