Originally from a rural village of the Kam Rieng district of Battambang province, Sokhern is a 50-year-old mother of five children, three of whom are dependents and still in school.
Buying and selling garbage has been the only source for her family’s income for two years. The main challenge for her family’s business is the lack of working capital to support the business.
This is Sokhern’s first loan with VisionFund. She is now requesting a loan of US $1,000. With this loan, she is going to buy garbage for resale. She hopes to earn more income from the current business so as to make a better living and keep her children in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
