Dinah, age 36, is a farmer in Kisii County in Kenya. She lives with her husband and five children; three of them are in school. She has been farming for 10 years, producing maize, bananas, and beans, which she sells to the people in her local area.
She is requesting for a loan for 31,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow that will help to increase her income and improve her livelihood. She will also use the money to educate her children, and use some of the milk for consumption.
Diseases and animal calamities are some of her challenges in farming. Dinah aspires to buy a vehicle to assist in transporting her products within the next five years.
Dinah is very thankful to Juhudi Kilimo for giving her the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
