The Las Poderosas group has seven members. These hardworking, enterprising women all have different ways of earning a living:
Andrea - photography studio
Juana - grocery store
Eleuteria - cosmetics sales
Eleazar- soft drink sales
Beatriz - shoe sales
Sara - cosmetics sales
This group is located in the village of Vicente, where the Las Margaritas sugar refinery is the largest employer. Ana is 40 years old. She only studied through high school, and she's the single mother of one son. She tells us that her parents taught her to work when she was very young, and now that she has her son she has worked even harder to be able to offer him a higher quality of life. Ana says that more than five years ago she decided to start her own business selling costume jewelry. She's had a lot of good customers, so she is thinking about investing in the business and starting to sell clothing, too, to earn a little extra income. The December holidays are approaching, and people like to buy new clothing around this time. Ana sells to friends and other customers door to door. She will invest this loan in buying blouses, shirts, tank tops, pants, underwear, shorts, skirts, and dresses to build her inventory. She hopes that this new business will help her increase her earnings and give her son the opportunity to continue studying.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
