Evans has been in active farming for three consecutive years in his rural home. He lives with his family of three children aged between 12 and 4 years. His produce includes maize, beans, eggs, vegetables and bananas. He runs a butchery business in the local market for additional income.
Evans has requested a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, to buy a dairy cow. He mentions lack of ready, local markets and rampant price fluctuations as the major challenges of his farming business.
His plans are to begin a cereals processing business. He says he meets the needs of his family, especially education of the children, through farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
