Peter is a farmer. He has been in business for six years and dairy and poultry are the main products though he produces maize, beans and vegetables as subsistence crops. His dairy and poultry produce are sold within the local markets and are the major source of income to meet his family’s daily needs. He also produces tea and coffee.
Peter has requested a loan of 30,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy more poultry birds. He believes this could improve his farming income and help him to educate his children as well as to improve his hotel business, which he runs within the local market to supplement his farming income.
Peter says animal diseases and undeveloped local markets remain the major challenges he faces in his farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
