Evans is a farmer and a father of three young children, the first born of which is already in school. He has been in farming for over twenty years and currently runs his farming business with the help of three farmhands. His major produce includes coffee, tea, milk, sorghum and maize. He runs a retail shop to earn additional income. Evans has requested a loan of 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy a dairy cow. He says improved milk production will help improve the livelihood of his family and allow him to educate his children. He remains optimistic about the growth of his business and expects the burden of educating his children to be eased. His future plan is to buy more parcels of land for overall expansion of his farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
