Gladys has had a food stand in one of León’s markets for 15 years; she does this work in order to support her family. She heads out from home at 7:30am and opens her business at 8am. She starts to prepare the delicious dishes and ends work at 8pm. Her customers are merchants in the market and people who travel to various departments and nearby districts.

She’s asking Ceprodel for a loan that she’ll use to buy rice, beans, oil, chicken and beef to offer her customers a variety of dishes at a lower price thus earning higher income and attaining a better standard of living since her dream is to keep making home improvements every day. She’s grateful to Ceprodel and to Kiva because her previous loans have made it possible for her to improve her business’ condition.

Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.
