3 De Febrero Group
The businesses that the lending group members carry out are varied. Among the businesses in this group, we have: vegetables sales, newsstands, varied product sales, hat sales, bakery, construction material sales, fried potato with hot dog snack sales, undergarments sales, corner stores, and sewing aprons.
The loan will benefit small microbusinesswomen, like Placida. She says this is the first time that she will loan from Pro Mujer. She joined by invitation from a friend that is a member of our institution. Currently, she has a bakery. She says that she learned this business from her husband years ago, and she has been working in this business ever since.
The loan that she will now take out is to increase her capital (by purchasing flour) that she will buy from the distributors. After production, she will sell her goods at her stall. This form of work allows her to generate resources to support her home as much as possible. She lives with her life partner and has four children.
When asked what she likes most about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes the consulting office.
This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
