Vincent is a farmer, aged 30, in Kisii County in Kenya. He lives with his wife and two children; only one is in school. Vincent has been farming for five years, producing maize, beans, vegetables and Napier grass, which he sells locally. He also runs a barber shop as an additional source of income.
He is requesting a 50,000 KES loan to buy a dairy cow, which will provide him with extra income from its milk production. This will help him improve his living standard and enable him to pay school fees for his children. Vincent aspires to have his own car that will assist him in transporting his farm produce, within the next five years.
Unavailability of a ready market, and little capital for business expansion, are his major challenges in farming. Vincent thanks Juhudi Kilimo for financing him and hopes it will continue with its good work in the future.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
