Senghun is 31 years old and married. She lives with her family in a rural area located in the Bakan district of Pursat province. She has five dependent children to take care of and now they are in school in the local area. Rice farming is the only primary source of her family’s income to make a living and she has been in this business for several years. Senghun can save approximately about 10,000 KHR each day for her future needs.
This is the first micro loan for Senghun with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She is requesting a loan of 3,000,000 KHR. She wants to use this loan to buy fertilizer for her farmland and start a new business as a grocery seller to earn additional income to better support the family. Senghun hopes to increase her current business to earn a more income to make a living better and keep her children in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
