The motivation to improve himself is one of the most important dreams of a man who lives with his family members. He lives in his own house in a zone with a high incidence of social violence and delinquency. He does not want to see himself affected by it, and this is one of the better decisions he has made. He is proud of this.

He grows corn, and in order to supplement income for expenses he also works as a day worker. He sells in the different areas surrounding the zone, and he has a lot of clientele. They prefer him because of the quality of the product, the accessible prices, and, above all, the excellent service.

He is a man who is devoted to his household and his family. He is always watching out for their safety and comfort. In the last few years his house has had some damage, and he wishes to repair it. However, he does not have enough capital to do so. Therefore, he is requesting a loan from Integral that will allow him to buy cement, bricks, iron, and sand to repair the walls and the roof.

He has good payment references, and he is very responsible. He confirms that he will be able to repay the debt, and he is confident that he will bring stability to his household.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of a pilot project Apoyo Integral is launching in conjunction with several local NGOs to support at-risk youth and their families with funding from Kiva. This loan product is tailored to young people who find themselves in high-risk situations because they are located in areas affected by extreme violence. Loans are combined with vocational, technical, and financial training to help these young people develop business ideas that will help them generate income, reintegrate into society, and support their dreams of being productive and contributing members of society.

Due to potential safety risks facing these youth, some of the loans are being disbursed to their parents in order to protect their identities. For the same reason, the faces of some Apoyo Integral borrowers may be blurred in photos. Apoyo Integral appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to provide much-needed support to at-risk Salvadoran youth.

About Apoyo Integral

Apoyo Integral (Apoyo) is a nonprofit organization offering financial products that enable clients to increase their working capital, purchase fixed assets, buy and remodel homes, expand agricultural business and more. The organization’s target group is businessmen and women who have already established their businesses but need financial support to strengthen or expand them.

Like Kiva, Apoyo is committed to empowering women involved in business activities in rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand these services to an even greater number of poor clients in rural areas.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
