There is always new hope for those who make up their minds to live another day so that they can fulfill their goals and plans for their families, overcoming violence in society. This is the case with this woman, who lives together with her mother and her son, who is her greatest treasure. Her husband lives in the United States and helps her a little bit with finances, but not enough to cover all the household expenses. She is a determined woman whose pledge is to give the best of herself so that her family will not lack the necessities of life.

Currently, she works selling food in an area of the country. She has a small stand where, with the help of her mother and her son, she manages to have successful, work-filled days. She tells of the satisfaction of having a regular clientele; her place is located close to an industrial zone, which means that at lunchtime, every worker arrives at her stand to buy lunch because she is the only person with reasonable prices.

The borrower wishes to expand her food stand by buying tables, chairs, and more raw ingredients so that she can vary her menu and have a little more money coming in. She doesn't have enough money for this investment, and that's why she approached INTEGRAL to request a loan to buy those items. She gives her thanks in advance and hopes to be able to pay back the debt as soon as possible.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of a pilot project Apoyo Integral is launching in conjunction with several local NGOs to support at-risk youth and their families with funding from Kiva. This loan product is tailored to young people who find themselves in high-risk situations because they are located in areas affected by extreme violence. Loans are combined with vocational, technical, and financial training to help these young people develop business ideas that will help them generate income, reintegrate into society, and support their dreams of being productive and contributing members of society.

Due to potential safety risks facing these youth, some of the loans are being disbursed to their parents in order to protect their identities. For the same reason, the faces of some Apoyo Integral borrowers may be blurred in photos. Apoyo Integral appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to provide much-needed support to at-risk Salvadoran youth.
