Since March 2012, Aida and Tom have been the proud owners of Cafe Manhattan, a small coffee shop in San Diego’s North County.
Located next to the town's car wash, the coffee shop and café has a steady stream of hungry clientele who praise Cafe Manhattan for their fresh coffee and delicious crepes. These delicacies are stuffed with fresh ingredients such as baby spinach, applewood smoked bacon and Swiss cheese, while desert crepes are made with melted chocolate ganache or fresh lemon juice. They also serve fine paninis and fresh fruit smoothies.
Cafe Manhattan is a family-run business. Their daughter often helps out in the business, and Aida and Tom enjoy the flexibility they now have to spend time as a family. They also love interacting with their loyal customer base.
After struggling with their revenue during the recession, Tom and Aida are looking to secure a stable income stream for their shop. Tom also works as a real estate agent to supplement the family's income, which is also why he was not present when the picture was taken.
They will use their $8,100 Kiva loan to purchase new equipment such as an oven hood, increase menu options and better serve their clients. As their business grows, they hope to someday open a second location.
